What is Woman?

And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made He a woman…”

Genesis 2:22 KJV

Woman’s structural foundation was formed of a rib. The rib has 3 major functions, which are to protect, to support, and to respire. It’s structured to enclose and protect the heart, lungs, and other vital organs. It has a very strong framework to support the muscles that are attached to the shoulder, chest, upper abdomen, and back. And, the rib is very flexible for the purpose of expanding and contracting for air to flow freely through the respiratory system. In order for the Body to live effectively, each of these units must function simultaneously. Yet, what happens if there is a break in the rib?

A broken or fractured rib is typically caused by a fall or direct blow to the chest. If a blow to the chest is hard enough to break the ribs, it could also injure the lungs, spleen, blood vessels, and other major parts of the Body. The most common injury, when there are multiple breaks in the ribs, is a punctured or collapsed lung. The broken area surrounding the lungs is unable to hold its shape making it difficult for air to flow into the lungs. Breathing becomes extremely painful because the muscles, used for breathing, pull on the ribs causing abnormalities in breathing. The abnormal breathing can then lead to feelings of restlessness, anxiety, confusion, and sometimes even fear. Sound familiar?

The healing process for broken ribs is unique and amazing. They actually heal on their own over time and are treated in the comfort of one’s home. During the healing process, it is important to continue with regular activity such as coughing and deep breathing, as this can prevent the risk of pneumonia or a collapsed lung.   Oddly enough, it is best to lie on the injured side, as this allows one to breathe more deeply. And, the presence of pain is necessary to determine the progress of one’s healing. “Time heals all wounds.” So as the pain subsides, strength is restored.

Many women have been broken by the falls and blows of life and have been unable to hold their shape (original nature and form). This brokenness has lead to a misrepresentation of what it truly means to be woman. Like the rib, the woman was created to protect what is most vital, love, for sustaining life. She is fashioned with an array of emotions to support the muscles (relationships) by well-balancing those emotions. Finally, woman is shaped to be flexible in order to respire (inhale & exhale) so that faith, hope, and love can flow freely through her. So, what is woman? Truth: WOMAN – a protector, a supporter, a respirator.   However, the brokenness of woman has falsified the true state of her being; but by His stripes, she is healed!
